The driver for Windows Vista for the new model of the smart card reader (the one shown in this picture) can be downloaded from this address:

The files do not load properly & I don't know where to put them in Windows Vista. I too have the same problem after purchsing the sim card reader. It is very frustrating.

Note that the driver is only suitable for 32-bit versions of Vista, and it will NOT work with 64-bit versions of this operating system (although a 64-bit driver is on its way).
To install the driver, you need to follow these steps:
1. download the ZIP file posted on the forum;
2. extract it to a folder;
3. plug the card reader in, and let Windows detect it;
4. it will attempt to install a driver and ask you whether you want it to be installed automatically or manually;
5. choose 'I will select a driver myself' and indicate the folder you created at step #2;
From that point the device should be working. You can verify its status in the system's device manager.

Thanks for the updated driver.
I can get it to load properly in Vista, but SIM Manager 2.0 doesn't see the reader.

Is the Smart Card service enabled?

Thanks for the updated driver.
I can get it to load properly in Vista, but SIM Manager 2.0 doesn't see the reader.
I'm having the same issue, and yes, the Smart Card service is running. The card reader shows up in Device Manager as working properly.

Did you attempt to install the Windows 2000/XP driver on Vista before using the Vista driver?

I am having the same problem.
I did attempt to install the drivers in the download section (now I know it was for 2000/XP and not Vista). I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling under Device Manager, but without luck.

You should make sure the old driver is removed first (otherwise Windows will re-use it automatically when the device is connected again).
Further, try using the newer driver (I updated the link in the third message of this thread).
Once it is installed, see how things are in the device manager; and make sure the smart card service is running (by default - it is).

I am having the same problem. I went to the Drivers page, downloaded the driver found there, and installed it. After it didn't work, I came to the forums and discovered that I had just wasted my time installing an unlabelled Windows XP driver on my Vista system.
Following the directions in this thread, I uninstalled the XP driver and installed the Vista driver. The installation succeeded, but the card does not show up in SIM Manager 2. The services program reports that the Smart Card service is "Starting". All of the options for stopping, restarting, etc., the service are grayed out. The status never changes from "Starting".
I hope I don't have to return this reader I just bought.

OK, yet another reboot fixed the Smart Card service problem. Instead of "Starting", it now reads "Started".
The Device Manager reports that the SIM Reader is working properly.
Still nothing shows up in SIM Reader 2.

I am having the same problem. I have only installed the version listed in this forum for Windows Vista. I do have a 32-bit version. Device manager shows properly working, but when I start the Sim Manager, it shows nothing. Now what??

It still sounds like an issue with the smart card service; attempt to stop it, then start it again. Will it get stuck in a "starting" state, or will it turn to "started" shortly?

Here is a verbose set of instructions, you can use this as a reference to double-check your actions.
How to install the card reader's driver in Vista if you have previously attempted to install the wrong driver
Open Device Manager (click 'Start', enter 'Device Manager' in the search box)
Right-click the Dekart Smart Card Reader entry under 'Smart card readers' and select 'Update Driver Software'.
In the screen that opens, select 'Browse my computer for driver software' and click 'Next'.
In the next screen, click 'Browse' and select the folder storing the correct driver for Vista. Unselect 'Include subfolders' and press 'Next'.
After a successful installation, import the registry file included in the archive.
Restart the PC.
Note: If the final installation screen states 'The best driver software for your device is already installed', but the driver actually did not work, please press 'Close" and follow the instructions below:
In the Device Manager, right-click the Dekart Smart Card reader again, now choose 'Uninstall'.In the screen that opens, check 'Delete the driver software for the device' and press 'OK'.
Re-insert the reader in the USB-port.
In the 'Found New Hardware' screen that opens, please select 'Locate and install driver software (recommended)'.
When asked for the disc, please select 'I don't have the disc. Show me other options.'
In the screen that opens, select 'Browse my computer for driver software (advanced)'.
In the next screen, click 'Browse' and select the folder storing the correct driver for Vista. Unselect 'Include subfolders' and press 'Next'.
After a successful installation, import the registry file included in the archive.
restart the PC.
Check if the reader driver has been installed correct by inserting a card in the reader.The led should stop blinking and turn on continuously (for around 5 seconds).
To confirm that things are correct, verify the status of the device in the Device Manager; it should have no exclamation marks.
If programs in your system (ex: SIM Manager) still can't see the reader, it is an issue with the smart card service. Attempt to restart it and make sure the system is able to perform this operation.

Either double-click it, or right-click and press Merge.

I'm still not sure where to import the registry file. I have clicked on about everything to do with the driver and I don't even have an option to merge or import the registry. I'm pretty frustrated, so hang in there with me!

To import the registry file, right-click it and press Merge, then accept the security prompts shown by Vista; see the attached image.

So, can I trust the problems with Vista (32-bit) is all history now, and the installation will be smooth and simple?
I am going to buy a SIM card reader very soon, so I can easier manage the three SIMs I presently use.

Yes, there is a new version of the driver that automates all the actions:
