Hello --

I recently purchased a Dekart SIM Reader and am awaiting its arrival. I work for AT&T in the United States and hope to push the Dekart SIM Reader to some of my larger business accounts for address book management. I was hoping you could answer a couple of questions for me:

1. Will Dekart's software v. 1.09 (the complimentary version that comes with the reader) be capable of reading 3G UICC SIMs, or will this require v. 2.0?

2. Will either version be capable of importing contact lists from Microsoft Outlook / CSV format? If so, which version(s)?

3. About how quickly will the reader / software write 250 addresses to a SIM?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Although we've met 3G cards that could be read by SIM Manager 1.x, 3G cards are officially only supported in SIM Manager 2.
Both versions can import/export CSV files.
The speed of reading depends on the performance of the card, and it varies from "fast enough not to notice there is a delay" to "watch the progress-bar for less than 10 seconds". In the case of my SIM card, 200 items are read in 3 to 4 seconds; but you should not forget that these figures may not apply to your case.

Does that time estimate apply to WRITING to SIM cards as well? In other words, how long would it take to write 200+ contacts to a blank SIM?

An upper-end estimate would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

In the case of the above-mentioned SIM card, 200 contacts were written in ~12 seconds, and then read in ~3 seconds.

Another SIM card, a slower one:
- 250 contacts are read in 17 seconds
- 250 contacts are written in 20 seconds

Repeating the experiment several times generates the same values, so read/write speed for the same card is constant.

From the SIM cards at hand, I could not find one slower than the one that takes 20 seconds per 250 contacts to be written, therefore 20 seconds could be taken as an upper bound. But again, you might be dealing with some previously unseen flavours of cards, they could be faster, or slower; because of that I would rather assume that in the worst case scenario the time is 25 or 30 seconds.
