Hello,

I am looking for a solution for secure logon (winXP) and have some questions about Dekart Logon software:

- I read on the forum that even if Dekart Logon is activated, it is possible to logon into safe-mode using the ordinary way (Windows password). Is that right? Isn't there a way to also protect safe-mode logon?

- I currently have an iKey100 Rainbow that is used for another software. Trying to format it for Dekart, a message tells me that there isn't enough free space on the key.
How many space does Dekart need on a token?

- Is it possible to protect 2 PC with the same "Dekart token", BUT different passwords?

- Is it possible to create a "token copy" that I will store in a safe place in case the token I use is lost/deleted?

- Last (Hope my post will not be deleted :): What would you say about the advantages of Dekart on Rohos "welcome screen"?

Thank you,

Nat

Nat, thanks for the challenging list of questions.

The first one has been discussed earlier on the forum, and it is summarized in this entry of our FAQ: http://www.dekart.com/support/faq/nfaq/#logon_related

Basically, there is a way to do that, and in the future releases of Logon we'll add such an option, because people keep asking about it.

You should format the token with our tool first, it takes about 7KB (unless you provide command line arguments that will change the options of the formatting procedure). Our formatting utility leaves free space for other applications.

The token can only have one PIN; a user account in Windows can only have one password assigned to it - so I am not sure I understand your question correctly. Do you mean "what happens if I store two user accounts on my token?"

You can make a copy of a token or a smart card with Key Manager (http://www.dekart.com/products/card_management/key_manager/). It's a 30 day trial, but that gives you plenty of time to make as many copies as you need.

Not having used that program, I cannot provide an objective answer to that question. A few points could be: we support a wide range of security-related hardware (http://www.dekart.com/products/supported_devices/), our software relies on NIST-certified implementations of cryptographic algorithms (http://www.dekart.com/company/certificates/), we support more versions of Windows - which makes the program more convenient for a corporate environment.
I guess I could find more items if I took some time to play with that program.

I was used Rohos. In general I liked it more. But it doesnt support USB tokens only a USB flash dives. But dekart doesnt work in Vista, rohos does. Also it works in safe mode. Dekart only promises for a long time ;)
( I also hope you will not delete my post ;) )
Anyway I am looking for a stable release of Dekart Logon for Vista. Alex I actually dont like how you made it now for Vista. I hope your developers will change it.

Natol, I would recommend you to use Dekart only if you really concerned with a iKey100 tokens.

Nicoz, only spam and duplicate messages are deleted, everything else is published. If you want your messages to show up instantly, register on the forum and you won't have to wait for a moderator's approval.

Your points are valid, and the release version of Logon for Vista will be a fine product, when the time comes.

The 'problem' with safe mode is not a problem, as explained above. People who are paranoid about it, can follow the suggestion given in the FAQ.
