View Full Version : Tracfone Motorola W370 - Reading - Writing The Sim

Hello, I'm new but hoping someone can help me.

I own The Tracfone Motorola W370 and the USB port has been disabled from the factory. I suspect this is done so Tracfone users will have to download their ring-tones directly from them. I don't begrudge Tracfone the ability to make some money on ring tones and I don't care about that feature.

I would like to know if The Dekart Sim Card reader / writer can write the 200 + names and numbers I have stored on my computer from my last phone to my W370 so I can circumvent having to manually enter all those names and numbers by hand.

Thank You!

Panda, the reader and SIM Manager seem to be the tools you need.

But first, tell me in which format the contacts are stored in the computer. SIM Manager can import contacts from a CSV file, and write them to the SIM.

If your contacts are in CSV file - no problem; otherwise we'll have to think about a way to convert that to CSV.

Hello Alex and thanks for the reply.

The saved file on my computer was backed up with a program called Data Pilot, looking at it in properties tells me the file is Phonebook File (.dpb).

There may be a silver lining here, I still have the phone with the names and numbers in tact stored on the phone, not a Sim Card tho because its a CDMA phone.

One thought, and please tell me if I'm on track would be to back up all my email addresses and info on my Microsoft Outlook 2007 and save to a file.

Delete all the email addresses and info in Outlook 2007.

Copy all info from my old cell phone and sync with Outlook 2007.

Export all my cell phone synced information from Outlook 2007 and save as CSV.

Your thoughts please, or anyone else and I thank you, Dekart might turn out to be my new hero.

Also I wanted to add that my Motorola Tracfone does give me the option to store names and numbers on the phone OR SIM Card.

DPB seems to be a proprietary format, so it will be impossible for us to import its contents.

If you can use the Data Pilot tool to synchronize the contacts with Outlook, then your solution could work. There is no need to delete your Outlook contacts prior to that. As far as I remember, Outlook allows you to create categories in your address-book, so all you have to do is make a new category for your phone contacts and import them.

After exporting that category to a CSV, open it in SIM Manager and you'll see how it works. In other words, you can give this approach a try without actually purchasing anything.

If everything is OK (i.e. the contacts look good in SIM Manager's window), then all you need is a card reader in order to write the stuff to the SIM.
