Does anyone know if this product works with prepaid phone SIM cards, namely Tracfone, and if so, can you add ringtones without going through Tracfone. So far, this is the only way I know of to do it with a Motorola V170. Thanks for any help.

It is a tough one to answer, because we do not know which type of GSM cards the operator issues. If you could find that out, we will be able to give you a detailed answer.

As for uploading ringtones, SIM Manager manages contact information and some other details [such as last dialed number, own number, etc.].

In the case of ringtones, often they are stored in the phone's memory, not on the SIM card. Therefore you need a special cable that connects the phone to the computer. The problem is that different phone manufacturers have different cables; while SIM Manager (and Dekart SIM Card Reader) work directly with the card, which means that they'll work with any phone (as long as the card it uses is supported).

My advice is - first of all make sure that you know which problem you are trying to solve, so that you could know which tools to choose.

You need Motorola Phone Tools to download screensavers and ringtones to your phone, and of course the cord to hook it to the computer. I have that if you want, just leave your email address and I'll send it to you.

Before buying Motorola Phone Tools, you should do a look up to see exactly which models they support. I bought the MPT and even though my phone model (W376) was in the sw list for setting up a new phone, the initialize process said my phone was not supported. After running around with Tech Support, they confirmed my model is not supported by MPT and gave me a website that lists the models supported.

Now, of course, because I opened the box and opened the disk envelope, I can't get my money back on the purchase.

anyway the website is mptlookup.com (no www).

Wish I'd had that info before I bought...
