View Full Version : Citrix ICA Error

We are using Dekart Logon for Citrix ICA Client. A lot of the time when someone inserts a properly configured smartcard we get the following error message:

'Error during working with Key Storage Device occured : at OMNIKEY AG Smart Card Reader USB 0 [The Key you connected has not been formatted!]

If we OK this error message and try again immediately then the card logins in perfectly the second time. It seems to happen most when there is another application such as Excel open in the foreground on the PC.

We are using Omnikey 3121 Card Readers & Schlumberger Cryptoflex 32k smartcards.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Martin

Hi Martin,

Please tell me if you've tried this with other cards or other readers; did the problem persist?
Which version of Dekart Logon for Citrix do you have?
Which is your version of Windows?

Finally, enable the program's logging mode by creating the following file: C:\DK_ICALogon.log (the file must be empty). Once the error occurs again, it will be recorded to the log - send it to us afterwards. You can email the log file to support[at]dekart[dot]com for analysis.

There is a secondary log file which might be useful: C:\dk_smartkey.log (to be treated in the same way).

The logs will help us understand the problem better.

We've not tried any other card readers or smartcards apart from the Omnikey & Cryptoflex ones mentioned below.

The PCs are running Windows 2000 Professional SP4 and it's version 2.02 of the Dekart Citrix Logon app.

I can't find an option to enable logging on the Citrix Logon application. Is there a command line switch or a registry key needed to enable it?

There is no such option in the interface, logging mode is enabled by creating these two files in the root directory of C:

DK_ICALogon.log
dk_smartkey.log

The logfiles mentioned have been created in the root of the C drive but do not get written to. The PC has been rebooted but no joy.

Do you have a recommended smartcard to use with your software? Can you let me know of any cards which are known to work with it so I can get hold of some to rule out the hardware.

Thank You

Although the log files are still not working correctly I have found a solution to this problem.

There seems to be a compatability problem when using the Cryptoflex smartcards. I have now got hold of a number of ACOS2-8 smartcards and these work perfectly every single time.

I think the cause of the problem [why the logs don't work] is that the file has a double extenstion. In other words, you name the file dk_smartkey.log, but your text editor automatically appends a .txt, so that the actual name is dk_smartkey.log.txt (which is why the logging mode is not triggered).

To check that, make sure that "hide extension of known file-types" is disabled. See the attached screenshot.

Either way, I am glad that you were able to resolve the issue. If you still need to make it work with Schlumberger Cryptoflex smart cards, please make sure there is no double-extension, so that logging mode actually switches on.
