What is this for?
Why does it bring up the NETLOGON share on my server as an open folder everytime it runs?
Why does it access 206.186.83.30 port 80 on starting?
Can I remove the registry entry that runs it so it stops running each time I log in and will it effect the security?

Which version of Dekart Logon do you have? The issue you mention was resolved in an earlier beta. Please take a look at this thread for details:
http://forum.dekart.com/showthread.php?t=425

Ltool is used in the cases in which you need Novell eDirectory support. If you don't, you can remove this component from the start-up list [but note that it will be created there again], so removing it is done by renaming [or deleting] the file. Ltool.exe is located in C:\Windows\System32.
However, you should try the beta first.

And finally, the IP address you mention is http://www.dekart.com/, the program is checking for updates.

Thanks, I have downloaded v2.21 from the website - I did see that thread and downloaded the file but when I ran it the installer told me I already had v2.21 so I thought it was an earlier version and didn't proceed.

Will a version come out that allows us to disable this properly or is that what the beta already does?

As for the update check, I didn't recall an option to allow this and I suggest that adding this is a must in the current climate of spyware/adware. A great product like yours should not get tarnished by a silly mistake.

The betas come with an installer that has the same version, so when it says that 2.21 is already installed, press Next, as if you were installing a new version.

Once the process is complete, you will be able to notice the difference by checking the program's About window, you will see which modules were updated and what their versions are.

Ltool cannot be disabled, but it does nothing if you don't use Novell eDirectory, it is unloaded, so there are no resources taken by it. If you want to entirely eliminate it, rename Ltool.exe to something else when you are in safe mode. Next time you load, there will be no errors if the file is not found, the program will simply skip this module.

As for spyware, it is mentioned that programs connect to our site and download a file in order to check for updates [see the updates guide (http://www.dekart.com/howto/general/howto_check_for_updates/)]. There is no option in Logon's GUI to change that, but you can turn it off by checking this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dekart\Logon
There should be a DWORD Value called CheckUpdate, set it to 0.

Also, C:\Windows\System32\dkl_logon.ini should have a CheckUpdate=0

Note: the beta that is being discussed is in a stable state, so it is safe to try it. Let me know if the problem was fixed.

Thank-you for your prompt response - I will try the beta when I get home tonight and report any issues.

I am still evaluating the product but based on what I have experienced so far and your excellent support service I can see no reason so far not to purchase a copy or two and also recommend it to my clients.

Thanks, that's done the trick.
