Hi, Alex.

I would like to try the new beta version of Sim Manager...
Is that possible?
Do you have an approximate date of release?
Thank you!

Gianni

The new beta can be copied from this location: _ttp://files.dekart.com/beta/MEditor.zip

You can write all your reports about the program in this thread.

Hi, Alex.

Uhm, I tried my SIM reader (Smartpal, by SolutionInside) with some programs. It works perfectly with SIMEdit! and Dekart SIM Manager 1.09, then I installed SIM Manager 2.00 beta, but it seems pretty unstable.
I will send you the log, if i manage to create it.
Every time I run it, it crashes and blocks every communication between XP (SP2) and my sim reader. I always have to kill the process and stop the scardsvr service, then unplug and re-plug the reader, otherwise it remains unusable, also through other editing tools. Often I have to reboot my system to get all things in order again.
This can happen no matter what I'm about to do (read phonebook, sms, try to backup my sim card): the communication simply falls down and the reader falls "asleep".
My sim is a 128k TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile) card. Sometimes reading operations are successful, sometimes are not. Pretty randomly. I don't know if this is a compatibility issue concerning my reader or what else...
Anyway, I cannot save sms messages in .phn or .csv format: MEditor will write the sms center number only... No text, no date, no senders...
Will the program retain dates and message status(read /unread /sent /unsent)? And will it be able to restore dates and status while writing smses back to the sim card? It would be nice if SIM Manager could allow the user to modify sms messages on-the-fly, by double-clicking on them, like SIMEdit!

I don't know... I will try to post you the logs.
My reader works fine with SIM Manager 1.09.

Another question, about Secrets Keeper: is 3.12 a final or beta release?
I tried it but it cannot open older .skf files created by 3.11 version (it says "password incorrect", all smooth if I open them with 3.11), neither by using nor not using a PIN protected key. dk_SecKeeper.log doesn't seem to work with 3.12.
Excuse me for this last OT...

Thank you for your patience!
Bye,
Gianni

Gianni, tell me if this problem with SIM Manager 2 beta exists with other SIM cards as well.

Can you also try to run it on another computer?

gcv

I ran it on two different machines, both under Win XP SP2, but no way.
I could not enable logging mode... and unfortunately I don't think that somebody here would lend me his own sim card!

Hi,
I've Tried SIM Manager 2 beta, and found one big problem!
I Couldn't read the sms messages!
It reads the card, and it only shows the phone number to where sms were sent, but there's no message.
Are they under development yet?
Thanks,
Fabio Augusto

The functionality is there; if you cannot see SMSes:
- make sure you really have messages on the SIM
- tell me which mobile operator issued the card
- download SIM Explorer (http://files.dekart.com/tools/SIM-Explorer.zip), make a card backup and send it to us via email (supportATdekartDOTcom)

Note that the card backup will contain private details, such as your contacts their phone numbers, a list of dialled numbers and your SMS repository, etc.

A newer beta is availabe for download: _http://files.dekart.com/beta/SIMManager2-b1.exe

Gianni, does it crash in the same way?

Hi Alex.

First of all, I' d like to submit you this logfile, generated by SIM Manager 1.09 after a crash caused by other programs i.e. SIMEdit! PLUS, MobilEdit, and SIM Manager beta...
Though all things work great with Sim Man 1.09 and SIMEdit! 4.0, I guess this could be a compatibility issue concerning my reader and/or my sim card, since several other tools are not able to communicate properly with my hardware...
Hope this log can help you...

Thank you,
Gianni.

About this new beta... I found it quite better than the first one.
I noticed that now message details can be edited by double-clicking on them, nevertheless changes cannot be confirmed... or I did not manage to do it! One thing more: scrolling should be improved, because I can't read the text of my smses completely. The final part of them "vanishes" beyond the right side of my monitor!

Last note: the program adds a strange "0000609" sequence at the end of the sender's number. I'm talking about smses, sure.

Obviously the program still crashes, but as I told you this could be a problem of mine, and I would be happy if you could help me to determine that!

Thank you again, Alex.

Try this one out: _ttp://files.dekart.com/beta/simmanager2-b2.exe

I noticed that now message details can be edited by double-clicking on them, nevertheless changes cannot be confirmed...
Try pressing Enter, will it work? (either way, even if it does, it's not very convenient, so this will change in the future; but see if this temporary workaround helps)

Gianni, regarding "0000609", the cause of that is that the format in which the messages are stored is not known to the program.

Please use the Backup SIM option (see the screenshot); it will write the contents of the card to a file, then send that file to support-at-dekart-dot-com. We'll study the card backup and determine which format it uses to store SMSes. Note that the backup file will contain your private details (address book, SMS), we will not disclose this information, it will only be used for testing purposes; either way, if there is any special information on the card, it would be better if you left only several test entries on it.

Unfortunately, backing up my sim card has been impossible... At some point the prog freezes every time and I have to kill the process.
Furthermore, the same happens whenever any write operation is attempted on the card.
I also tried dekart SIM Explorer, but no way, it crashes too...

No, neither Enter nor any other key will confirm the changes in the message fields!

The fact that the problem repeats itself with SIM Explorer too is pretty puzzling; I'll discuss this with the developers and get back with details on Monday.

I tried it (with another reader) and this one seems really good, almost perfect, but "Write on sim" actually does not write anything on my card!

Alex Railean
November 21st, 2006, 22:45
It should only write data to the SIM if there were any changes. Are you sure that you've modified something before attempting to write?

gcv
November 23rd, 2006, 14:06
Sure!!
The progress bar comes into action, and the program seems to write new records on the card, but it actually does not...

Alex Railean
November 24th, 2006, 10:02
What if you disable 'write updated files only' (see screenshot), do things change?

gcv
November 26th, 2006, 16:52
Nope...

Furthermore, the Options window is slightly different from that one depicted in your screenshot!

Make sure you have the latest beta ( _ttp://files.dekart.com/beta/SIMManager2-b5.exe )

Can you press Help\About and tell me what the version of MEditor.exe is?

gcv
November 28th, 2006, 22:39
It's exactly the last one in that link ... just the only one really working!
The .exe version is something like 2.00.09...

Alex,
I use Sim Manager 2 beta that is in MEditor.zip version everything works fine also my licence works. But when I install the version Sim Manager 2-b3.exe using of course administrator rights the program shows a message saying that my copy is not register if even if I put the serial number when I install the program. And when I try to put the register number straight in the program I get the message "the register number is not right". All the time I use the program I receive the message "This copy is not register. The evaluation period will expire in 9 days. What can do?

I have been waiting for 4 days for my reg code to arrive for sim manager. I have paid via Paypal and have e mailed your company twice with no response. How am I supposed to get the software to work if you don't send me a reg code?

My best guess is that the email was not delivered, being flagged as spam on your end. Please send me a private message, indicating the email you used during the purchase, and some of the details of your order. An alternative contact address is also needed.

Alex,
How can I get the latest version of SIM manager to update the version I got when I purchased the SIM reader? I sent you a private message with my origonal registration code and some comments on the problems I am trying to resolve with the latest version.

I bucked up and bought the newest version hoping it would solve my problem (I can write to the sim card but when I try to read it the Sim Manager application freezes). I'm out the extra cash and still have the same problem. I also noticed that I can not edit the speed dial field. Please advise.

when I try to read it the Sim Manager application freezes
Tell me which version of Windows you have, and which smart card reader is being used.

Do you happen to have other applications that use PC/SC readers? If so, do they work correctly?

pjb880
March 25th, 2007, 08:58
I am running W2000 and using Dekart SIM reader DK38T. I do not have any other PC/SC reader applications.

Alex Railean

Take a look at the attached picture:

Do you see the little SIM icon next to the reader's name?
Please open the Properties window, as shown in the screenshot, before attempting to read the card. Another window should show up; if it does, please post a screenshot of it; otherwise - let me know if SIM Manager crashes.

Alex,
I sent the screen shot of the card properties via private message for privacy reasons. After making the screen shot I attempted to read the card and this was the result:

file:///C:/DOCUME~1/PBURNS~1.TRO/LOCALS~1/Temp/msoclip1/01/clip_image002.jpg

the number read before the program hangs will sometimes vary. Thanks again.

It looks like the 2nd screen shot did not take so I attached it here (I hope)

Please download the update from this address: xttp://files.dekart.com/updates/SIMManager-log.exe

Once you update the program, start it, go to Options\Settings and check "Enable error and operation logging".

Attempt to read the card, wait for the program to fail, then send us the file c:\scedit.log to support at dekart dot com.

This is the log that contains details about what happens in the background, it should give us more clues about the problem.
