Has anyone tryed installing/using Dekart Logon in Windows Vista?
I'm beta testing Vista and I want to know if it's possible to install this product in this version of windows.
Thanx

Logon was not yet extensively tested with Vista. Microsoft's new OS is still under development, so it is difficult to make a prediction regarding compatibility.
It is not certain that Vista will be supported as soon as it is officially released, but it is an objective we are trying to accomplish.

Hi,
anything new on Vista compatibility?
I plan to change from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate next week, so I need to know.
Best regards,
Alex

Logon's next major release will be Vista-compatible, while the current version does not work correctly on this OS.

So, could you make an estimation of when the next major version will be released?

I am using Vista Ultimate x64, with all of the current updates (that is available through Windows Update).
When I start the Logon_Administrator, all buttons are blank and text is absent.
I have fiddled with the Compatibility tab, disabling high DPI scaling, desktop composition, and visual themes. Also, I tired running the app in XP compatibility mode.
Moreover, I installed the beta in a sandbox with XP Pro (w/SP2 --all updates) and I have encountered the same bug.
Previously, I was able to install Logon 2.21, although it would not work correctly under Vista, buttons and menus were visible. Since this is a fresh install, there is not a trace of the Logon 2.21 installation.

I tried the beta for vista and It seems to install and the application opens, but I see no text on the buttons, nor do they do anything when I click them. Is there any kind of workaround for this?
Alex Railean

The "blank labels" phenomenon occurs on x64 versions of Vista. The beta is suitable for 32-bit platforms; a beta for 64-bit will be released a bit later.

A new beta of Logon for Vista is now available for download: xttp://files.dekart.com/beta/logon-Vista-02.msi
It is not yet a final, and it does not provide all the features that are available in the non-Vista version.
Here are some highlights that will be useful to you if you're planning to play with it:
You must logon using a key once, in order to make the Dekart credential provider the default one;
Press Other credential providers to choose key authentication;
This version does not provide support for biometric authentication as a third factor, but the feature will be available in the next release;
A restart after the installation is not needed;
The current version cannot use keys created by the older version, therefore you should make a backup of your sensitive data.
The GUI of the key administration tool is not yet final, there will be changes here and there.

I installed this beta on vista HP 3Gb ram 320GB hd and a 2.0 Ghz dual core and the setup ran and failed on the final step which corrupted the UAC and the logon process with the following error.
coMarshalInterfaceInStream
This come up under Vista Logon and any atempt to Run As.
This Error is recoverable using the Advanced Startup option Fix startup problems or the computer fail to start completly 2 or 3 times.
Please let me know if this is not the correct place to submit this, Thanx

Hi, you can submit your reports via the forum.
UPDATE: Problem solved, here is a new installer: xttp://files.dekart.com/beta/logon-Vista-02.msi
Indeed, this error will occur in such cases; a current workaround is to run these commands after the installer has done its job (and the error messages were shown):
rem regsvr32 coskey.dll /u
rem regsvr32 coskeyps.dll /u
regsvr32 coskey.dll
regsvr32 coskeyps.dll
Note that you will have to tell the installer NOT to restart the system after the installation (so that you can run these commands).
The easiest way is to put these lines in a BAT file inside the program's folder and run it from there (with Administrator rights).

Yes this fix the error regarding issue with UAC. While i was able to create a key file for the logon the vista logon screen shows no added ability to logon with a pen drive. Did i mess anything
1. created a batch file to launch installer + register DLL (as Admin)
2. After restarted opened up the GUI and created a logon key
that is it.
GUI looks good

If the installation went well, you won't see any immediate changes, because the credentials provider is not set as the default one.
When you log-off or lock the workstation, there is a (usually blue) button called "other credentials". If you click it, you'll see the "key authentication" feature.
If you use it once, it will become the default.

Hi I notice some basic issues wit the beta 2230:
1. After installation and restart, logon if you open the Logon GUI and select Setting you see a blank drop down or Key removal after selecting any option and click ok there are not changes even after a logging out. The box stay empty.
2. in setting as well the log path browse buttom after clicking on it just blink and does nothing.
Both items how been tested in both user and administrative modes.

Note: After installing and applying the dll reg ( is this still needed ) and creating a key then rebooting the option is Switch Users to select the Dekart credentials option.

Here is the latest version for today: xttp://files.dekart.com/beta/Logon-2.23.1-moonlight.msi
jstone36
March 19th, 2009, 02:59
This is a dual post for 2.23.1-moonlight and my findings for 2.23.1
Note imo 2.23.1-moonlight is unstable running on my Vista Unlimited HP Core 2 duo 2.0 GHz 3 GB RAM
1. moonlight suffer from an unknown install issue in which it place the files and appears to register DLL and then prompts with installer has encounter an error, which shutdown the install proccess which say it permiturely ended.
2. after install w/o reboot system is stable lock and unlocks as well as log out/in. Thu after reboot system regonizes Dekart logon as welcome screen after inserting key prompts for passcode entered pass and system sits there no response. all buttons are activated and can be pressed, switch users shift to what would be the user to be selected however it displays nothing. Forced shutdown is only meathod for escaping this part.
-- now for 2.23.1 --
only one seemed major issue with 2.23.1 was that the CredentialService.exe stopped upon every user login.
Preformance issues with welcome screen (some of which was noticablely fix with moonlight)
1. upon system waiting for your input for three finger salute key press if key was inserted before the key press system went unresponsive and hard shutdown requried. ( same applies to moonlight )
2. minor issue/thought w/o three finger enabled system sit waiting fo key even if key was inserted or inplace upon boot.
Attached is the log from the CredentialService for your use.
did not see any true changes to Gui will test on next rev.

So when will this Dekart Logon Vista be available?
Alex Railean
August 18th, 2009, 06:32
You can download a fresh build from yesterday, it is available here: http://www.lazybit.com/index.php/2009/08/17/logon-for-vista-tvmonday-beta?blog=2
What is missing: a manual, some icons; most of it is finished, and we've been using it internally for weeks on Seven and Vista. It is safe for use.
Alex Railean
September 3rd, 2009, 11:18
Jason, I accidentally deleted the last messages, they were dupes, but I removed all the copies.
"TVMonday" is the current release candidate, it is stable and it is safe to be using it. When the final release is available it will include a manual and a modified icon - i.e. nothing substantial.
Does it work well for you so far?

Can you attach a screenshot of the error you see during the installation?
As for the computer not being unlocked successfully:
- is the flash disk detected as a fixed or as a removable drive?
- please enable the logging mode by creating the file c:\dk_smartkey.log; then go through a lock-unlock cycle and; then let me take a look at that file (either attach it to a post here on the forum or email it to support at dekart dot com)

Try to install it as an "Administrator" (not just a us a user from the admin group); alternatively, try "Run as administrator".
What about dk_smartkey.log?
Jason.Roberts
September 4th, 2009, 05:00
Hi, As you can see in this Print screen, i have no "Run As Administrator" in my right click, as for the dk_smartkey.log i will post you that once i Re-install
Alex Railean
September 4th, 2009, 05:15
The option doesn't show up because a .msi file is not an executable one, the workaround is to start an elevated command line prompt and run the .msi from there.
Example:
Start, search for 'command line prompt'
Right-click it and choose "run as administrator"
Once you're there, change the directory to the one where the MSI is, type its name and press Enter.
The most simple way is to log on as "Administrator".

Alex Railean
September 9th, 2009, 08:52
Yes, it works with smart cards already, and it will support all the smartcards supported by the Logon for XP version.
Does your smart card reader not show up in the list of keys?
Regarding the problem with the installer - we are able to reproduce it and we'll provide an update in the next few days.

Alex Railean
September 9th, 2009, 09:19
Ok, I see where you are coming from.
The logic was slightly changed in this new version, so it will only display smart card readers if a formatted card is inside it. No card = no reader; that's why you thought it wouldn't work.
Jason.Roberts

It is possible to change that - how would you change that? I mean, what else would you write there?
And the logo - you mean you want to see an image of a smart card there? Or you mean that you want to customize the program and have your company logo there?
Jason.Roberts
September 9th, 2009, 17:20
Hi Alex, what I mean by the text and logo is that, if you was using a smartcard it would say "Insert SmartCard" and logo of smartcard, if using usb Picture of usb drive like you already have with the text you have, basicly custom text & Logo would be good, if all possable..

Hi Alex, I have installed the latest Beta, and i have come accross problems.. on the logon screen it eather starts to flash, and also when i enter my pin, i carnt log on, also when i removed it, it also deleted my orignal username and password box, also i then put xp on my system and installed dekart logon xp version, now when i log on as none admin, the xp graphics dont load, when i log in as admin, no problem, then i log of admin and log on as none admin, it loads, if i log in the computer as admin before i log on as any other, it loads, i have put vista back on and back to using the TVMonday version, and i found another problem, if i set up a smartcard/usb key without a pin, i get "No Valid User" if i put a pin on, it then works...
Alex Railean
September 15th, 2009, 04:04
Which version do you intend to use in the long run? This thread is focused on the one for Vista - so I will address that part of your post.
on the logon screen it eather starts to flash,
You mean that the user tiles are blinking?
and also when i enter my pin, i carnt log on
Is there an error message? How exactly can you not log on?
when i removed it, it also deleted my orignal username and password box
Did you enable the "allow logon only with key" option in the program's settings?
if i set up a smartcard/usb key without a pin, i get "No Valid User" if i put a pin on, it then works
The "TVMonday" version is not the latest one, the latest one is "catnap", does the last problem persist in that version too?

Yes

no message, just i hit enter or click the blue -> nothing happends
Did you enable the "allow logon only with key" option in the program's settings?
yes, when i was using the prog, however, when i removed the program, it also removed my default login box, system restore needed

the logging in somtime does, but this version does not blink on the login screen.. but this version will not let you login unless you put a pin on the usb/smartcard, if you try logging on without a pin I get "No valid Account"

October 23rd, 2009, 13:03
Well, when i was using windows vista i could use the TVMonday version, and the updated versions after that i couldent, i would just get a flicking logon screen, however i now updated to windows 7, and i installed the TVMonday version i just carnt log on, i put smartcard in, enter pin and it just stays at the logon screen, now on vista this version worked ok, the newer embassy version i couldent run on vista as it would just constantly flicker on the logon screen, and i get the same on win7
Alex Railean
October 23rd, 2009, 15:01
Here is what needs to be done
Delete the profiles from the key (or back them up)
Uninstall the current version
Reboot
Install this one xttp://files.dekart.com/beta/Logon2.24.0-falcon.msi
Re-create your profiles
Additional questions:
- do you happen to have a biometric reader in your computer?
- does the flickering problem persist?
- what kind of smart card do you use?
Jason.Roberts
October 23rd, 2009, 15:19
Hi alex, thank you for the reply, however, am still geting raped flashing on the logon screen, the whole screen rapidly flashing, the smartcard am using is ACOS3 been using this card with version TVMonday on windows vista without a problem,
Alex Railean
October 26th, 2009, 06:17
We'll need to take a look at the logs to figure out what causes the flickering.
To enable them, do this:
- create c:\dk_smartkey.log
- click "enable logging" in the Settings dialog of Logon's administration program
Reboot the system, let the problem manifest itself, then send us these files:
- c:\dk_smartkey.log
- all the files from this directory: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Dekart

Jason, before you do a system restore, try the followings:
1. Boot in safe-mode and provide us with the logs from the directory: C:/Program Data/Dekart. The logs are called "dk_credentialprovider.log", send them at support [at] dekart . com
- In case the logs are missing, create a file called "dk_credentialprovider.log", and make sure it has the extension .log, and not any other.
2. In case you have filled the check-box next to "Enable secure logon in safe mode" make a System Restore to the moment before the one when you have installed your version of Logon.
3. If you were able to get into the computer, uninstall Logon, and if there are any files in the directory C:/Program Data/Dekart, then delete them too.
One last thing you may try to gen into your computer without making any changes to it is: click continuously the left-mouse button in the place where your user tile is (when the image is flickering).
And this should allow you to log in with the user.
If you succeeded then do the 3rd step.

Hello Jason,
seems it is problem in the installer,
you need to install Logon as Administrator (not user from Administrators group) or also you can do the following:
after installation run console as Administrator, switch to c:\windows\system32 and perform follow commands:
regsvr32 coskey.dll
regsvr32 coskeyps.dll
