Alex:
I emailed you on this issue, I have 2 sims one with a white back and the other with a blue. I can read the one with the white back with no problem, but the other sim that says 3g with blue back doesn't read or reconized the sim. Please shed some light on this with some help. Or do I need a different software or reader??? thanks for the help.

I have the exact same problem. I can read 1 type of SIM (older) but not the newer T-Mobile SIM. It is a little different in shape but my phone doesn't have a problem at all to read it. What should i do ?
(i have "unable to 'reset' command in other tools)

Try SIM Manager 2, the beta. There is a link to beta2 in this thread: http://forum.dekart.com/showthread.php?t=792

Hi,
I recently purchased a reader and find that I cannot read the Orange 3G sim cards. At least it won't read a card for the SPV M3100 phone.
Can you help? I emailed support last week but have not yet received a response!
Help!!!!!!
Thanks
Simon.

Hmm, I don't recall receiving an email from a person with your name.
Either way, the first thing you should do is make sure that
- the reader is installed correctly (ex: you are able to read other cards with it)
- you are using the latest version of SIM Manager (so that it supports new types of cards). A link to the latest version can be found in my previous message.

Hi Alex,
Not to worry..... I can read older none 3G Orange cards in the reader. I will confirm which version of the software work etc later tonight.
Many thanks
Simon.

Sorry..... it appears that I cannot read anything with this reader. I also have a ACR38T reader which, with other software, I can read my older card. However, this does not read 3G cards.
With the Dekart reader the red led lights up when I boot up the machine and stays illuminated but when I insert a card I get no response (old or 3G) with either the SIMManager 1.09.9.1 or MEditor (Version 2.00). The Smart Card Reader appears in the Device Manager as 'EMV Certified USB Smart Card Reader'. So I guess the driver is installed correctly. I'm running out of ideas..... what should I try next.
Regards
Simon.

Have more info.
Having entered the serial number into the software correctly and I can now read the contents of the phonebook on my old card, but I still cannot read any SMS meesages at all. This is using the Dekart Reader.
This is good progress. All I need to do now is be able to read something from the 3G card.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Simon.

It works. With the new drivers installed for the new device it reads all my sim cards that i couldn't read before.
The new reader is a must buy if you have problems with 3g or 4g sim cards. Also the software is great.

How do you know if you have a 3g sim card????

You can ask your mobile operator which card was issued to you. As an alternative, you could try looking for various labels or images on the card - perhaps that information will help you determine the type of the card. Also, if you have a smart card reader, you can analyze the card with a tool such as SIM Explorer, and see if it contains files that are specific to 3G cards.
The first approach is the easiest one, and it is like to succeed. The second one requires some time for a small research, but there is a great chance that you will find what you are looking for. The third approach is more complicated, because you need a PC/SC card reader, the software, as well as the knowledge that will help you see the difference between the cards.
