Default Invalid CA certificate in Firefox 3?

The title says it all. Since you are selling security products, why do none of the default standard CA's preloaded in Firefox 3 not know about your certificate. I get this error when I select the "Free Digital ID" offer.

Secure Connection Failed

inside.dekart.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it was issued by an invalid CA certificate.

(Error code: sec_error_ca_cert_invalid)

* This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.

* If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later

Or you can add an exception…

Regards
Ron

Default Re: Invalid CA certificate in Firefox 3?

Ron, thanks for the good question.

We do use a "trusted by default CA" for the electronic store part of our web-site; we do not use one for the free digital ID service that we offer.

The reason the service is free is that we rely entirely on our own infrastructure, and there is no need to pay another CA in order to get a certificate from them.

What you need as an end user, to sign and encrypt messages, is a certificate that contains your data and your keys - this is exactly what we offer. These data are associated with your email address, i.e. what we do is make it clear for others that this email address is associated with this public key. This service can be provided with minimal effort and cost for us - that's why we do it.

In order to continue providing the service for free, we must not rely on other CAs. You get the same functionality and it is just as secure as a non free certificate.

Default Invalid CA certificate in Firefox 3

An invalid certificate error when trying to access Quickbooks is usually caused by runtime MS Access. You need a full commercial copy of MS Access to sync data with Quickbooks.

Users who are not directly triggering the sync with Quickbooks can use the free runtime version of MS Access.
