Hi, I noticed a little bug in Dekart Private Disk. When I restart my computer it intercept the signal and close its virtual drives (ok, fine!) but sends back to windows the wrong signal, so that it does not restart but shutdown. It should be not too difficult to fix. I noticed that if no Drives are mounted there is no problem.
Is this issue already known, or the problem affects only my computer? Thanks, ![]() Karma |

This problem is not just your computer I have the same problem too. I noticed it after I installed the software and created a `container'

Can you guys provide some basic details about your systems?
How do you restart the machine (please mention the details)? - start\shutdown - by pressing ctrl+alt+del - via the task manager ...

First, let me tell you what you asked for:
I use Windows XP Professional, Private Disk v2.09, and I never used Private Disk before. The problem started when I installed the application (and created and mounted a Virtual Disk). And now... ![]() Well, I have shutdown disabled via regedit > HKCU "Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policie s\Explorer" "NoClose" = 1 but I use to shutdown, restart, etc. via the Mini Shut Down Utilities, and it always worked. After what you said I tried restarting in many different ways: -> Mini Shut Down Utilities (WinRes.exe) -> it did SHUTDOWN -> %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -r -t 00 -> it did SHUTDOWN -> NSIS built-in reboot function -> it did RESTART -> normal start \ shutdown \ restart (after re-enabling with NoClose =0 in Policies) -> it did SHUTDOWN So..... WHERE is the problem? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Tell me, are the disks mounted or dismounted at the moment of shutdown?
Finally, do the Mini Shutdown Utilities offer you the chance to perform an action when an event occurs? If so, you could start Private Disk with the /unload command line parameter before shutting down (this will close the program and cleanly dismount all the disks). |

Here is how things are: when the system is reset or shutdown, each program is notified about it. However, there is no way to distinguish one event from another.
There is an alternative method to detect which of those has occurred, by consulting a registry key, the value of which is modified when the event occurs - this is what we use to figure out whether it is a restart, or a shutdown. You are using a non-standard method of shutting down the system, and it seems that when this method is used, there is no way to tell one event from another. Naturally, Private Disk cannot handle this non-standard behaviour. So I think that using a batch file is the optimal solution for this problem. Quote:

Hi,
I'd like to return to this issue since I experience it as well and I use standard way to restart my system - through Start -> Shutdown -> Restart. If Private Disk is running the system always shuts down instead of reboot. If I unload Private Disk everything works as expected. This is pretty annoying as I do reboot frequently. A workaround was found, the full story is here = the anatomy of the restart=shutdown problem.
